Oh how I love Dim Sum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
What can I say about dim sum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania?!?!? It is definitely one of my favorite things to have with a group of friends. There are so many options!!! I have met many Asian friends throughout the years that always know how to expand my palate. For me it is the best to go with one of them because they know exactly what to order. They know I’ll try just about anything once! I know there are some of reading this saying what in the world is Dim Sum???
What is Dim Sum???
Dim Sum is a chinese dish of small steamed or fried savory dumplings containing various fillings, served as a snack or main course. And yes I pulled this directly is from the dictionary (on my phone of course). They literally walk around with carts of food and you just pick/point at what you want to eat.
Today was a day where I had to kill time before a meeting so I invited one of my fave foodie friends (I have a few) to dim sum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and no he wasn’t one of my Asian friends so we did some guessing when it came to ordering off the cart. I had been craving it for months. Literally it’s been about 6 months since I had eaten dim sum. Since there’s no good dim sum places in Delaware; I always take the trip to Philly/Chinatown. I don’t mind traveling for good food!
We went to a place I’ve been several times before called Wokano in Philadelphia. They used to have these amazingly delicious đ sesame balls filled with lotus flower paste. A taste that I can not describe but definitely a flavor all its own. I was dissappointed âšī¸ to find out today that they switched the filling to a red bean paste. Don’t get me wrong I like red bean paste but was craving the lotus flower.
Fortunately, everything else we had was up to my expectations. We had fried sticky rice, shrimp dumplings, shrimp shui mai, shrimp rice noodles, fried small fish and fried taro. Seems like a lot but they are small portions to share. I’m not quite sure what kind of fish the fried small fish are but they are so good! A little salty so if you have high blood pressure I’d be careful. The fried taro was a first for my today. It kinda reminded me of a fancy mashed potato with a meat filling and fried on the outside; what’s not to love?!?!
I was happy đ to have my dim sum craving fulfilled on
Tuesday, February 19, 2019! I know it seems like we ordered a lot but in all honesty we were missing some of our favorite things off the cart. Not because we didn’t order them but for some reason they didn’t seem to have as much of a variety as they once had when we were there last. I would still recommend this as a good restaurant for dim sum. If you have a favorite spot let me know. No two dim sum spots are the same so I like to try them all out one at a time!
