Moon Child Sweets’ First Pop Up Shop

Pop Up Shop Moon Child Sweets Wilmington Brew Works Foodie Pic

Moon Child Sweets‘ had its first pop up shop Saturday February 23rd 2019 at Wilmington Brew Works! If you weren’t aware Moon Child Sweets is my baby! My home based bakery that I am working on growing into something that I can do everyday and not work multiple jobs. Isn’t that every entrepreneurs dream?!?!?! I was so excited and also so nervous at the same time. Let me give you a little background about the brewery and how this came about in the first place.

About Wilmington Brew Works

Wilmington Brew Works is the first production brewery in Delaware’s largest city since 1955. Housed in a 100 year former laboratory. They make new and innovative ales, lagers, sours and ciders. They have a family friendly taproom that has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating where drinks with friends can be enjoyed! I’ve definitely tried a few of their beers all of which are good. They also have a variety of Italian Soda which is a good change of pace when looking for something non-alcoholic.

How Did This Happen

In December, Wilmington Brew Works held there first Retail Therapy Vendor Event. I was asked to be apart of the event. They were given my name and information from a woman that I work with during the summer doing a farmer’s market. I gladly accepted the opportunity!

I had to guess with what to bring and how many of each dessert to bring since this was their first vendor event. There was about sixteen vendors during the event. I was nervous in the beginning because sales were a little slow. Subsequently, in the span of the three hour event I completely sold out of all my desserts!!! Whoa!!! Due to how great I did they asked if I would like to do a pop up shop in the near future. I would have been crazy to say no right?!?!?!

That brings me to my first pop up shop!!!! The featured dessert I chose to bring was tiramisu!!! Wilmington Brew Works has this amazing Tiramisu Espresso Stout by Nocturnal Indiscretion – Midnight Snacks on draft so of course I used it in a batch of tiramisu!!! The stout was used in the soaking liquid for the lady fingers.

I also made Cheesecake, Brownies and Strawberry Shortcake Parfaits. I make just about everything for my desserts from scratch which makes me stand out a little more from other bakeries. It also brings a sense of pride to my business.

How The Day Progressed

The day was busy from the beginning. They had a tour bus of 56 people first thing in the morning. Business was pretty steady all day!!! I have to definitely thank my loving mother for helping me for the day which wasn’t planned but was apparently meant to be!

My tiramisu was a hit and sold out!!! Everything else also sold pretty well. I apparently went a little crazy with the cheesecake but no worries I had another venue to sell what was remaining from the event. The day was a hit!!!! I have to thank Wilmington Brew Works for giving me the opportunity for my first pop up shop!!! Also, have to thank the many new and familiar customers that stopped by to grab dessert from me during the day!

Food Truck

A great ending to my busy day was these amazing crab fries I ordered before leaving the brewery. While I was working the day inside there was a food truck working outside. The food truck was On The Roll Food Truck. As a fellow small business owner we love to patron each other when possible. They were kind enough to buy a few desserts about halfway through our time there and while they were purchasing their desserts I asked about their menu. They had me at crab fries with real crab and not to be confused with old bay fries. I placed an order for them towards the end of my time and took them home where I could get off my feet and really enjoy my food. They were delicious!!! If you see this food truck definitely take the time to stop and grab some food!!
