Thumbtack Luncheon at Jones Restaurant

Jones Restaurant Philly Pennsylvania Foodie Pic

About a week or so ago I received an email from a representative of Thumbtack inviting me to a dinner at Jones Restaurant. It was more of a luncheon instead of a dinner because it was at one in the afternoon; so I’ll be calling it the Thumbtack Luncheon from this point forward. If you haven’t heard of Thumbtack it is an online service that matches customers with local professionals. As one of their African-American Pros I was invited to this Thumbtack Luncheon at Jones Restaurant.

Yes I’m skeptical!!!

Am I the only one that is skeptical of free sometimes??? Don’t get me wrong free is for me but sometimes I have to make sure there’s no strings attached. This luncheon was a paid for by Thumbtack and completely free. Trust me I sent an email before attending to make sure I wasn’t being roped into something sneaky.

Crazy Days Lead to Fashionably Late

The Thumbtack Luncheon was at Jones restaurant in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Due to having a hectic day I was a little late. I found a spot right out front, which I was very thankful. Apparently, they had just been served the appetizers right before I had arrived. Therefore, I didn’t get a picture of the appetizers because they had already started digging in to the plates. Everything was served family style. I’m not sure if the Jones Restaurant usually serves the plates family style but that’s how everything was served at our luncheon.

Appetizers

First, the appetizers consisted of a mixed green salad, hummus and mac and cheese. First, was the mixed green salad was your basic mixed green salad with red onions and vinaigrette. Next, we had hummus which was good. It was accompanied by pita, roasted red peppers and a couple other small items. Lastly, the best part of the appetizers which was the mac and cheese! The mac and cheese was so velvety and delicious. Even after it had cooled a little it didn’t tighten up too much.

Entrees

Next for the entrees we had Meatloaf and two types of sandwiches. Starting with the Meatloaf. Served with mashed potatoes, gravy, peas, carrots and pearl onions. It was the perfect comfort food. I always forget how much I love cooked carrots! Now lets move on to the sandwiches. One of the sandwiches was a Roasted Turkey Club. The star of this sandwich that really made it different was the honey-jalapeno mayo. It was a good addition of sweet heat! I just wish there was more of it on the sandwich. Our second sandwich was a vegetarian sandwich that consisted of avocado, lettuce, tomato and a lemon aioli on a multigrain toast. I love just about anything with avocado!! Then multigrain bread added another dimension to the flavors and made for a great vegetarian option.

Dessert

Finally, for dessert we had a seasonal selection from the pastry chef. That selection consisted of red velvet whoopie pies, black and white cheesecake and ginger snap cookies. First, the whoopie pies were a little heavy on the chocolate. I wouldn’t have guessed they were red velvet but they were good for chocolate whoopie pies. Next, the black and white cheesecake was okay. It didn’t taste home made. Finally, the best part was the ginger snap cookies! I’m not a huge ginger snap cookie fan but these were pretty good. The best part about them was that they were warm out of the oven. Who doesn’t love a warm cookie?!?!?

Totally forgot to mention the drink I ordered. I wanted something non-alcoholic and non-carbonated. They had a variety of flavored lemonades. I ordered the blackberry lemonade and oh my gosh it was sooo good! Definitely glad I tried it!

Overall Experience and Networking of the Thumbtack Luncheon at Jones Restaurant

To sum up the Thumbtack Luncheon at Jones Restaurant it was a great time to network and just enjoy the company of like minded entrepreneurs. It was nice to be appreciated! The five Thumbtack employees (Jenelle, Dusti, Jason, Aaron and Cartier) were very pleasant. They took interest in our jobs and even had a few tips to share. I’m so glad I could be a part of this event!
